Ideation Session
Join the City of Jackson’s Ideation Session on December 15 to help co-design housing solutions and shape the future of neighborhood development. Light refreshments will be served.
Christmas Party at the Zoo
Join the Christmas Party on December 15 at the Jackson Zoo Community Center. Enjoy food, drinks and holiday fellowship. Semi-formal attire. RSVP by November 14.
Cookies, Community and Cocoa: Mid City Neighborhood Meeting
Mid City is hosting Cookies, Community and Cocoa: Neighborhood Meeting this Tuesday at the Horace D. Kelly, Sr. Community Center. Connect with neighbors, discuss 2026 goals, and help strengthen civic engagement.
City of Jackson City Council Meeting
The City of Jackson operates under the mayor-council form of government with a full-time mayor elected at-large and seven part-time council members elected (one each) from the seven wards. Learn more about Jackson’s wards here.
The City Council meets every other Tuesday at 10 AM or 6 PM in the City Hall Council Chambers. In addition to their regular meetings, they occasionally hold Special Council Meetings for certain topics. Check out the Meeting Schedule for more information.

Jayne Ave Toy Drive
The Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association is collecting toys for its annual holiday toy drive. Donations are being accepted now, with the drive taking place on December 18, 2025, from 9 to 12 pm at Rosemont MB Church, 3930 Officer Thomas Catchings Drive in Jackson. Community members are invited to give a toy and help brighten a child’s holiday.

Jackson Fire Department Annual Christmas Toy Drive
The Jackson Fire Department is collecting new toys for its Annual Christmas Toy Drive now through December 18 at all city fire stations and select dates at the Greenway Drive Walmart. Toys will be distributed to families on December 19 at the Jackson Fire Department Training Academy.
Jayne Avenue Toy Giveaway
The Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association will host a holiday toy giveaway on December 21, 2025, from 3–6 pm at the Jayne Avenue Community Center.
Georgetown Community Neighborhood Association Monthly Meeting
The Georgetown Community Neighborhood Association meets on the 3rd Monday of each month.
Unity in Action: Shady Oaks • Dalehaven • High School Park • Plymouth Heights Neighborhood Association Meeting
The Shady Oaks, Dalehaven, Plymouth Heights, and High School Park neighborhoods meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
Holiday Open House
Celebrate the season at the Eudora Welty House and Garden Holiday Open House on December 13. Enjoy carols, tours, kids crafts and a screening of The Muppet Christmas Carol. Free admission.
Union Market’s Winter Glow Weekend
Union Market’s Winter Glow Weekend returns December 13–14 with local shopping, holiday treats, live music and family-friendly activities.
Roll-Off Dumpster Day
Roll-Off Dumpster Day will take place December 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at three Jackson locations. Residents may drop off household items and small appliances for disposal. Tires, chemicals and gas tanks are not accepted.
15th Annual Doing Business with the City
Join us for the 15th Annual Doing Business with the City event on December 11 at the Jackson Convention Complex. This event offers a chance to meet City staff, explore contract opportunities, and connect with other local businesses.

State of the Child Address
The Honorable Carlyn Hicks will deliver the 2025 State of the Child Address on December 11 at 2 p.m. at Center Stage in the Jackson Medical Mall. The event will also feature the Hinds County Youth Court’s Champions for Children Awards.
Open House for the ONELINE Corridor Development Study

Brookleigh Homeowners Association Quarterly Meetings: In-Person or Zoom
The Brookleigh Homeowners Association meets during the last month of each quarter on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Book Panel & Signing
Join civil rights and history scholars Jere Nash, D’Andra Orey, and Justin Randolph for a book panel and signing on December 9 at the COFO Civil Rights Education Center. Free and open to the public.
City of Jackson Holiday Parade
The City of Jackson’s Holiday Parade is December 6 at 6 p.m.! This year’s theme is Let it Glow. Learn more about joining the event, road closures and parade route here.
Fondren Christmas Parade
Join Fondren Renaissance Foundation and our Fondren community for the neighborhood’s annual Christmas parade. Route: We will go south down State Street, back north up Old Canton Road, and turn west down Duling Avenue before going back to the Fondren Church parking lot. Parade begins at 6 p.m. Some roads will close beginning at 5:30 p.m.

City of Jackson City Council Meeting
Jackson is governed through a mayor–council structure, with a full-time mayor elected by the entire city and seven part-time council members elected from each of Jackson’s seven wards. Under Section 21-8-9 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended, the City Council serves as the city’s legislative branch and fulfills the responsibilities outlined in state law.
The council meets every other Tuesday at 10 am or 6 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers and may call special meetings as needed. For information on upcoming meetings, council members, agendas, and minutes, visit the City Council’s webpage.

Toy Give-A-Way
Registration for the Jackson Zoo’s Toy Give-A-Way will take place November 21–24 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Zoo Community Center on W. Capitol Street. Eligible families must live in Hinds, Madison, or Rankin counties and provide required documents, including a child’s birth certificate, a parent or guardian’s ID, and proof of residence. Being Belhaven, GBF Annual Meeting & Party
Our final event of the year celebrates all the work we’ve done over the last twelve months. This event follows the GBF Annual Meeting, which is free and open to the public. During the celebratory Annual Party, staff and directors present a summary of the year, announce the year’s Heart of Belhaven Awards, and thank board members and volunteers.

The 82nd National Folk Festival
The Jackson Folk Festival is a three-day celebration of music, art, and culture in downtown Jackson. Enjoy live performances, storytelling, crafts, and local food that highlight Mississippi’s rich folk traditions.
Hinds County District 4 Town Hall
Hinds County District 4 Supervisor Wanda Evers invites residents to attend upcoming town hall meetings focused on community priorities such as the 2026 budget, infrastructure, and public safety. Meetings will be held in Raymond, Jackson, and Byram between October 30 and November 11, 2025.

Opportunity Hours
The Refill Jackson Initiative is launching Opportunity Hours, a new program for young adults ages 18 to 26 to connect, learn, and grow. Beginning November 4, 2025, sessions will be held Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 136 S. Adams Street in Jackson.

Special Election
Mississippi voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, to take part in the State Senate and House of Representatives Special Elections. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
