Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association Meeting
Join the Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association for our first community meeting of 2026 on February 9 from 6:00–7:30 p.m. at the Jayne Avenue Community Center. The meeting will focus on community safety initiatives, legislative updates, and plans for the year ahead. Dinner will be served.
The Opportunity Fair
Step into a world of possibilities where opportunity meets preparation. The Opportunity Fair connects Jackson residents with real career pathways through jobs, training programs, apprenticeships, and open enrollment services across multiple industries — creating access to employment, skill-building, and long-term economic stability for the community.

JXN Food & Wine Festival
JXN Food & Wine Festival returns to Jackson on March 20 and 21, 2026, at the Mississippi Museum of Art for a weekend of delicious bites, curated beverages, and powerhouse chefs. Enjoy tastings, culinary experiences, and a vibrant celebration of Jackson’s growing food scene.
Mississippi Makers Fest
Mississippi Makers Fest is a free, family-friendly celebration of local music and art taking place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Entergy Plaza at the Two Mississippi Museums. Enjoy live music, Mississippi artisans, make-and-take activities, food trucks, and creative experiences for all ages.

Attend the January 27 evening City Council meeting to engage with local government.
Special City Council Meeting on Grocery Access
The Jackson City Council will host a Special Council Meeting on Thursday, January 22 at 6:00 PM at City Hall to discuss grocery store access and vitality across the city. This public hearing invites grocery store owners, community members, and stakeholders to share input on strengthening food access, supporting existing stores, and attracting new grocery options in Jackson.
Library Lounge: Chair Yoga
Join Library Lounge: Chair Yoga every fourth Thursday beginning January 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Medgar Evers Library and enjoy a free, all-levels wellness class focused on relaxation and gentle movement.
Residential Debris Drop-Off Event
Join the City of Jackson on January 22, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a Residential Debris Drop-Off Event at Old Norwood Shopping Center and Raines Park, where residents can dispose of bulky household items, yard waste, and tires at no cost.
South Gallatin Street Community Cleanup
Help keep Jackson clean at the South Gallatin Street Community Cleanup on Monday, January 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to lend a hand and make a difference.
Riverside Collective Community Clean-Up Day
Lend a hand at the Terry Road Community Clean-Up on Sunday, January 19th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Meet at 3510 Terry Road and help make a difference in your neighborhood.
35th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Prayer Breakfast and Celebration
Join the Jackson Association of Neighborhoods for the 35th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Prayer Breakfast and Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 7:30 a.m. at Greater Bethlehem Temple Church. This free, public event honors the life, legacy, and dream of Dr. King through prayer, reflection, and community fellowship over a complimentary breakfast.
Georgetown Community Cleanup
Join the Georgetown Community Neighborhood Association and the Jackson Association of Neighborhoods for a Community Cleanup on Sunday, January 18 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, covering the area from Freedom Corner to Lanier. Volunteers will help clear litter along key neighborhood corridors while building cleaner, safer streets for the Georgetown community. Supplies, snacks, and community service hours are provided.

Join the January 13 City Council meeting to stay informed on city business and community issues.
Georgetown Community Cleanup
Join the Georgetown Community Neighborhood Association and the Jackson Association of Neighborhoods for a Community Cleanup on Saturday, January 10 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the lot next to JASCO. Volunteers will help beautify neighborhood streets, remove litter, and create cleaner, safer spaces for residents and families. Supplies, snacks, and community service hours are provided.
Capitol Police Meet & Greet
Join Capitol Police and local law enforcement leaders for a Meet & Greet on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mississippi Trade Mart. This public event offers an opportunity to engage in open dialogue about community safety and partnership.
Briarwood Arts Center's Community Clean Up Day
Briarwood Arts Center invites community members to join their Community Clean Up Day on Monday, December 29 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This service project focuses on helping keep the area surrounding the center clean while also supporting nearby elderly neighbors who could use assistance with basic yard work.
Volunteers will work together to tidy outdoor spaces, remove debris, and help neighbors prepare for the new year. Supplies will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring their own tools such as rakes if available. This all-ages event is a great opportunity for team building, community connection, and giving back. Download the event graphic here.

The Shady Oaks, Dalehaven, Plymouth Heights, and High School Park neighborhoods meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
Georgetown Community Neighborhood Association Monthly Meeting
The Georgetown Community Neighborhood Association meets on the 3rd Monday of each month.
Jayne Avenue Toy Giveaway
The Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association will host a holiday toy giveaway on December 21, 2025, from 3–6 pm at the Jayne Avenue Community Center.
Jackson Fire Department Annual Christmas Toy Drive
The Jackson Fire Department is collecting new toys for its Annual Christmas Toy Drive now through December 18 at all city fire stations and select dates at the Greenway Drive Walmart. Toys will be distributed to families on December 19 at the Jackson Fire Department Training Academy.

Jayne Ave Toy Drive
The Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association is collecting toys for its annual holiday toy drive. Donations are being accepted now, with the drive taking place on December 18, 2025, from 9 to 12 pm at Rosemont MB Church, 3930 Officer Thomas Catchings Drive in Jackson. Community members are invited to give a toy and help brighten a child’s holiday.
Rise & Grind
Join Jackson business leaders for Rise & Grind on November 19 at Riverside Community Coffeehouse. Network, share ideas and connect with this month’s host, Nadia Gaynor.
City of Jackson City Council Meeting
The City of Jackson operates under the mayor-council form of government with a full-time mayor elected at-large and seven part-time council members elected (one each) from the seven wards. Learn more about Jackson’s wards here.
The City Council meets every other Tuesday at 10 AM or 6 PM in the City Hall Council Chambers. In addition to their regular meetings, they occasionally hold Special Council Meetings for certain topics. Check out the Meeting Schedule for more information.
Cookies, Community and Cocoa: Mid City Neighborhood Meeting
Mid City is hosting Cookies, Community and Cocoa: Neighborhood Meeting this Tuesday at the Horace D. Kelly, Sr. Community Center. Connect with neighbors, discuss 2026 goals, and help strengthen civic engagement.
Christmas Party at the Zoo
Join the Christmas Party on December 15 at the Jackson Zoo Community Center. Enjoy food, drinks and holiday fellowship. Semi-formal attire. RSVP by November 14.
Ideation Session
Join the City of Jackson’s Ideation Session on December 15 to help co-design housing solutions and shape the future of neighborhood development. Light refreshments will be served.
Holiday Open House
Celebrate the season at the Eudora Welty House and Garden Holiday Open House on December 13. Enjoy carols, tours, kids crafts and a screening of The Muppet Christmas Carol. Free admission.
Union Market’s Winter Glow Weekend
Union Market’s Winter Glow Weekend returns December 13–14 with local shopping, holiday treats, live music and family-friendly activities.
Roll-Off Dumpster Day
Roll-Off Dumpster Day will take place December 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at three Jackson locations. Residents may drop off household items and small appliances for disposal. Tires, chemicals and gas tanks are not accepted.
15th Annual Doing Business with the City
Join us for the 15th Annual Doing Business with the City event on December 11 at the Jackson Convention Complex. This event offers a chance to meet City staff, explore contract opportunities, and connect with other local businesses.

State of the Child Address
The Honorable Carlyn Hicks will deliver the 2025 State of the Child Address on December 11 at 2 p.m. at Center Stage in the Jackson Medical Mall. The event will also feature the Hinds County Youth Court’s Champions for Children Awards.
Open House for the ONELINE Corridor Development Study
