Jackson State University, in partnership with Downtown Jackson Partners and Waggoner, presents Mapping Our Neighborhoods: A Ground-Zero Community GIS Course, a four-day training designed to empower community leaders through mapping, data, and spatial thinking. The course runs Tuesday through Friday, August 18 to August 21, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Jackson Downtown Partners Urban Studio, 401 E. Capitol Street, Jackson, MS 39201. One session will be held each day across the four days. Day 1 introduces GIS concepts, maps, and how to use location data. Day 2 explores local data layers and patterns. Day 3 focuses on community data collection with Survey123 in the field. Day 4 covers sharing your community's story with interactive maps. Participants who complete all four sessions will receive an e-certificate. All tools, including the ESRI GIS platform, ArcGIS Online, Map Viewer, Survey123, and ArcGIS Instant Apps, are free. Laptops, tablets, Wi-Fi, printed maps, markers, clipboards, and refreshments will be provided. Space is limited to approximately 20 participants. Scan the QR code on the flyer to register.
