On Tuesday, June 10, the Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association (JANA) held a Walk & Talk around the neighborhood to identify concerns, needs, and opportunities for the future. Ward 4 Councilman Brian C. Grizzell lead the exercise and the Jackson Police Department (JPD) provided security to ensure resident safety. Jayne Avenue is a quaint, unified, and promising community with a number of assets located in historic West Jackson.

The boundaries of Bayridge are: Bayridge Drive (North), Bayridge Drive (East), Bayridge Drive (South), and Bayridge Drive (West).

The boundaries of Jayne Avenue are: Officer Thomas Catchings, Sr. Drive/O Ferrell Avenue (North), Bobby Rush Boulevard (East), Saint Charles Street (South), and Lindsey Drive (West).

The boundaries of PASSO are: Pin Oak Drive (North), Dinkins Street (East), Forest Avenue Extension (South), and Medgar Evers Boulevard (West).

The boundaries of Natchez Trace Estates are: Overlook Circle (North), Overlook Circle (East), Trace Drive (South), and Trace Drive (West).

The boundaries of Pine Lake are: Lake of Pines Drive (North), Watkins Drive (East), Forest Avenue (South), and Lake of Pines Drive (West).

The boundaries of Northgate are: Beasley Road (North), Watkins Drive (East), Hanging Moss Creek (South), and Livingston Road (West).

The boundaries of Barrington Woods are: Beasley Road (North), Madisen Edward (cul-de-sac) (East), Jasmine Court (South), and Hanging Moss Road (West).

The boundaries of Woodlea are: Rutherford Place (North), Hanging Moss Road (East), Beasley Road (South), and Hall Mark Drive (West).

The boundaries of Woodhaven are: W. County Line Road (North), Whitestone Road (East), Beasley Road (South), and Hanging Moss Road (West).

The boundaries of Valley North are: Valley North Boulevard (North), Watkins Drive (East), Valley Ridge Drive (South), and Livingston Road (West).

The boundaries of Richwood Estates are: County Line Road (North), Livingston Road (East), Lakewood Cove (South), and Cedarwood Drive (West).

The boundaries of Norwood are: Hanging Moss Creek (North), Village Drive (East), Nakoma Drive (South), and Kirkley Drive (West).

The boundaries of Lakeover are: W. County Line Road (North), Livingston Road (East), Lakewood Cove (South), and Cedarwood Drive (West).

One of the main goals of the project is to bring positive attention to the local library system and to beautify the branch. This project is in partnership with the Mississippi Arts Commission, JXN Friends of the Library, the Jackson-Hinds Library System, and Forman Watkins & Krutz, LLP.

The boundaries of Normandy Drive N/W are: Robinhood Road (North), Normandy Drive (East), E Northside Drive (South), and Normandy Drive (West).

The boundaries of Manila Drive are: Robinhood Road (North), Meadowridge Road (East), Naples Road (South), and State Street (West).

Bridges has been with JAN for two years and has a passion for communtiy advocacy and helping others. She believes that JAN represents an opportunity to share across wards to help everyone grow and thrive as Jackson moves forward. “We are rising together,” said Bridges. “If we lift from the bottom, everyone rises.”

For a second year, Jackson will celebrate 601 Day, a collective celebration of Mississippi’s capital city. 601 Day falls on a weekend this year, June 1 – 2, 2024. Jacksonians should look forward to two days of new and existing events, promotion specials, and opportunities to connect to the people that live, work, and play in the City With Soul.

Georgetown, one of Jackson’s oldest historically Black neighborhoods, is actively revitalizing its neighborhood association. The neighborhood held its first post-COVID meeting on April 15 and continues to meet on the first Monday of every month at the Jackson Medical Mall Community Room at 6 p.m.
