Jackson Makes Progress; Still Faces More Challenges
Mayor Chokwe Lumumba
The 2024 State of the City Address was held at The Ice House Venue on Thursday, October 10. Mayor Lumumba shared the progress made and the challenges Jackson is still facing.
Crime is down. Jackson Public Schools is successful. Funding has been secured to improve public transportation. Managing the unhoused population is now a primary focus. And although more overall infrastructure work lies ahead, street resurfacing and the water system are moving forward. “I believe that Jacksonians deserve to be fought for and supported, not used and exploited,” Mayor Lumumba said. “We must continue to invest in preventable measures to promote the safety of all residents and guarantee a future for our children. Ultimately, a child that does not feel embraced by the village will burn it down to feel his want.”
