Jackson City Council Makes Live Streaming Change

Looking for the live stream of Jackson’s City Council meetings? The Jackson City Council has stopped streaming its meetings on Facebook Live following the rollout of a new digital broadcasting system. According to the Clarion Ledger, city officials say the change is temporary and Facebook Live is expected to return once technical adjustments are complete.

Facebook Live has long provided an accessible way for residents to watch council meetings, especially for those who rely on mobile devices or social media notifications. During the temporary shift, residents will need to view meetings through the city’s updated streaming platform on the City of Jackson’s website, which officials say will offer improved video reliability and quality.

The switch was due in part to Facebook’s 30-day limitation for Facebook video hosting. Switching to the new system and YouTube means videos will be up in perpetuity for better public record keeping and for residents to have better access to videos later on. Shanekia Jordan, clerk of council, told the Clarion Ledger the city is working to keep content easily accessible and transparent.

To view meetings, click here or visit the City of Jackson’s website and visit the “Government” and then “City Council.” Videos and meeting agendas are available on this page by clicking “City Council Videos.” The video library allows users to choose which type of meeting they would like to view, such as regular council meetings, zoning meetings or public hearings.

According to the Clarion Ledger, the city expects Facebook Live to resume once the new streaming system is fully integrated and tested. In the meantime, meetings can still be viewed live or on demand via the City of Jackson’s PEG Network YouTube page or via their website.
